How to satisfy your human needs

There are a series of human needs, from physiological to motivational, which when all addressed and met allow us to be "complete", i.e. happy and satisfied. While we may not be able to satisfy all of them, ideally, and according to a human needs pyramid created by Abraham Maslow, we need and we should try to address all of our needs.


Mr. Maslow, born in 1908 to Jewish immigrant parents from Kiev, was an American psychologist who was raised and educated in Brooklyn, New York. His pyramid is a visual representation of a theory of Human Motivation, published in his 1943 paper for Psychological Review.

The order in which the needs classifications is listed is not a coincidence. According to Maslow, physiological needs must be met before those under safety, and only after physiological and safety requirements are met will someone begin looking at those under belonging and love.


Ideally each human should complete each level, so he/she can grow as a human being and have a more fulfilling life. The social needs in Maslow’s hierarchy include such things as love, acceptance, and belonging. At this level, the need for emotional relationships drives human behavior.


Looking at the needs that go beyond the physiological needs, I strongly believe we need to be aware of who we are, what we stand for and know and have integrated our values to be able to address needs such as esteem, cognitive, aesthetic and self-actualization.


If you are always afraid, doubting yourself, unsure, there is a good chance you may always look to others to provide you with security and safety. While it may feel comforting to hand over this task to someone else, it makes you dependent and it falsified the balance in the relationship. Knowing yourself, you may also be able to choose relationships and friends that are more in accordance with your ethics and values. There will be more harmony between the groups.


For you to acquire more knowledge and to explore what is available, or to look for ways to achieve this, you need to have an idea where you are and where you want to go. Or just be able to address your envies and explore ideas and concepts.


No matter what you want to learn, there are many free online courses, in many languages available for you. Knowing about yourself, having learned to appreciate your unique shape, you will take better decision towards the aesthetic needs and not fall head over heels in the trap of diets and starving plans. Spend less time wondering and worrying what people think about you or trying to please them. Invest this time more wisely on yourself. It is of course nice to know people do like you, and love you. Ask yourself the question if these people in return meet your needs or fill any of your needs. Life is about giving and taking, about compromises but it is definitely not a one way street. You deserve better than this:)

As for self-actualization, it will be your ultimate goal, well it should be everyone life's goal. Do you know your potential? Do you know how powerful you are or you can be?

Why stop half way? It's time to reclaim your life and be yourself. You have so much to gain from this, and this new way of living will affect positively your kids and family. You are at the beginning of a chain of change, it is only up to you.
